History of the Club

The club was formed in 1981 by Stuart and Jenny Horton and initially used the Penley school tennis courts.

In the eighties, the club had a very active social membership, with many events held to raise funds to build courts in the village.

All the hard work paid off and in 1987 with the aid of a grant, 3 tennis courts were constructed on land leased from Wrexham council.

A small temporary clubhouse was installed, but sadly has never been upgraded due to a lack of funds.

The club thrived and both social and competitive league tennis was played extensively.

In 2002, the Tennis Club agreed to allow the Bowling Club to move onto their leased land, enabling a nice little sports complex to be formed.

In 2003, the Tennis Club released one of its three courts for free use by the community.
